Whether it’s the sight of a dog playing in the park or a cat rolling around in the garden, there are few things that make Brits smile more than watching animals having fun.

Amongst a nation of animal lovers however there are certain pet parents who go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure their fur babies enjoy the most pampered life possible.

With Mothering Sunday fast approaching we thought we’d take a deep dive into more than 15 thousand Pet Mother’s Day card orders to reveal who the most loving pet owners are and where they live.

So if you’ve ever wondered whether it’s the humans or their furry companions who rule the roost in certain households this may just provide you with a definitive answer.

Pet owners named Margaret are the most loving

While we all find it difficult to see past our pets adoring looks and playful behaviour it’s those named Margaret who are the softest. Last year nobody received more Mother’s Day cards from pets than those called Margaret, signifying the attachment they have with their four-legged friends.

Derived from the Latin Margarita, which was from the Greek word margarites, meaning ‘pearl’, those named Margaret really do think their pets are one of a kind and spoil them accordingly.

It’s not only those named Margaret who ensure their pets are well looked after though. People called Sarah clearly have a soft spot for their four-legged friends and received the second highest number of Pet Mother’s Day cards in 2021 as a show of appreciation for their love and devotion.

Those named Susan, Sue and Helen make up the rest of the top five and earn their spot among the most loving pet owners in the UK.

After spending an increasing amount of time with our pets throughout 2020 and the early part of 2021 because of multiple lockdowns, it may come as little surprise to hear sales of Mother’s Day cards from pets increased by a whopping 149% last year when compared to 2020.

With sales remaining strong this year, pet mums up and down the country can expect to receive special recognition for their unwavering love and affection.

Those living in Lancashire received the most Pet Mother’s Day cards

Our research also revealed where in the UK the most loving pet owners live. Having received more than a thousand Mother’s Day cards from pets last year, pet mums in Lancashire were found to be the most caring.

With easy access to the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales and seaside towns of Blackpool and Morecambe it’s easy to see why Lancashire is the perfect location for furry friends to call home.

Pets in the south are well pampered as well though with those living in the home counties of Essex and Kent receiving the second and third most Pet Mother’s Day cards respectively. Merseyside and Yorkshire make up the rest of the top five…..poor animals in the Midlands!
